Bricklaying Licensing & Rules in Queensland
Important regulations and resources to help you hire with confidence in Queensland.
Licence for work over $3,300
A QBCC bricklaying and blocklaying licence is required to contract, supervise or perform bricklaying work valued over $3,300. Unlicensed work is prohibited.
Types and eligibility
Licence classes include trade contractor, nominee supervisor and site supervisor. Applicants must hold Certificate III qualifications and meet managerial and financial requirements. Incidental work outside the licence class is only allowed when valued under $3,300.
Home warranty insurance
Residential building work over $3,300 must be covered by Queensland Home Warranty Insurance. Builders must pay the premium and give the owner a certificate before starting work or taking a deposit.
Building permits and code
Structural masonry walls and fences generally require building approval from the local council or a private certifier. Designs must comply with the National Construction Code, Queensland Development Code and AS 3700.
Safety and training
All workers must hold a White Card and follow Queensland WHS regulations. A high-risk work licence is required to erect or alter scaffolds where falls exceed 4 m. Safe manual handling and PPE are essential.
Insurance and best practices
Maintain public liability and workers compensation insurance. Use quality materials and comply with AS 3700 to ensure structural integrity.
